I've found the rice paddies interesting here in Japan. I'd never seen them in real life before, and I didn't know too much about how they were farmed, so I've enjoyed looking while I'm here. I've found that other Americans I talk to are also very interested in rice paddies, so I thought I'd include some of the pictures of them I have. Enjoy!
First, rice fields growing wild, waiting to be planted. Feilds are planted in late spring and early summer. Wild clover grows in these fields next to my apartment.
Here are some rice fields soon after planting. The water-filled paddies look unbelievably beautiful on a clear day!
Here is a ripe rice field! Look at those heavy ears of rice! This is when the dragonflies come out too.
